Just the rich and powerful, the lower class have no idea (unless they were employed by the high class and deeply intertwined with it) just follow that the Kanagi are divine protectors from God and such.
I think it was mostly the high class or spillers that abused them. But it also seemed like everyone knew about the abuse going on and didn’t care cause it benefited them
I don't think all knew, because the people in Alto's village just believed that Kanagi were God's protectors. Scared of them, thinking it weird. And things like that.
I assumed they were talking about the past since their comment mentioned about people “coming” to the island. Cause in present time, no one openly comes and goes from the island except for those researchers. Cause if they were talking about the past, the islanders definitely knew outright or it was like an open secret. If they’re talking about present day then yes, almost no one knows about their awful past except for the top people. I would even say the church (whatever that is) doesn’t even know the full truth since they’ve leaned so far into the religious beliefs.
wow…where do we go from here? will yall be mad at me if i say mika needs to get his shit done? the nobles must go. elva is a deeply kind person, who won’t agree with mika’s response to their clans (race?) abuse, but he won’t give up on mika now especially knowing the exact reasoning behind his massacres. i think it shows me how either response to sexual assault/religious trauma is valid. you can’t dictate how a survivor decides to forgive their abuser.
also, did anybody catch if the islanders/peasents/lower class were apart of the widespread abuse? or was it just the rich and high class ppl who came and tortured them too?
