Tbh im kind of upset. I love this story, but i feel like lately EVERY bl must contain SA as a backstory for the bottom (no matter if its romanticized or not)(btw i noticed this almost never happens to the top).

I like the way the author approached the topic this time (except for the scene in chapter 24 which i found unnecessary- never illustrate abuse, there are weirdos out there looking for that) , but still feel like the story could have gone without it.

Idk, im just upset cause thats my one trigger warning and now i cant keep on reading it and i just think it could have been avoided

This is not criticism, its just an observation / confession

I also understand why some ppl would argue that this detail is necessary, but i sincerely think there were other ways to convey the same message thay the church and institutions in power are corrupt. It comes down to narrative choices. And thats why i just wonder why they always choose SA (overall)

    It is criticism.
Saying they should have removed the SA bc it triggers you is a bit self-centered. Learn from history, where there is corruption there is abuse, and SA is ALWAYS involved. It highlights the monsters the nobility were, what started off as just wanting power turned into letting men fill their sick fantasies with these young kids. Its supposed to make you feel disgusted, horrified, to show why the black sea only targets the island and what sort of pain lead the curse to be placed on it.
Sure, they could have just said they murdered people or maybe just implied it, but then it'd be like glossing over a fact that is highly important for the history of the island.
I agree that SA is always used in BL and there are stories than should have definitely developed without it but I don't think this is one of them. Again, its all about the horrible actions men committed and the consequences. It pisses me off to think that so much time passed that way and no one listened to their cries of help, that they let them be despised and feared while behind closed doors they were assaulted.
It happens in real life. It happened in history. And it's a dark part of humanity we can't ignore.
