I totally understand your reason. I mean, what happened between their parents was no joke. It's not something you can just sweep under the rug. But then again...it ain't real life. If the author is totally gaming for both daughters to end up together, they might make some kind of dramatic-comedy yet also complex situation but still make them end up together in the end.
