i was skeptical at first bc i thought the plot was trying to be more complex than it actually was. but even with the predictable plot, the characters made smart choices that kept me reading. i esp liked that chris didn’t jump to conclusions about max and remained steadfast in his trust. thankfully, he didn’t play the role of a damsel in distress like most mafia stories with civilian lovers. the story unfolds satisfyingly bc just when things might fall apart, the characters managed to pull through. i wish there’d been an after story for both couples tho (and a longer depiction of the brothers suffering for their crimes)
