Okay guys. One thing I’m seeing a lot of, that’s been pissin me off is people talkin bout how, “Oh you have a choice to be good or bad, no matter how sad the backstory.” I’ve just got a few things to say to those people. No tf you don’t. You don’t just go through years of trauma that shape your entire childhood and then wake up one day going, “Oh I’m gonna be a good person!” Like that doesn’t even make an inkling of sense. And to clarify, I’m not saying all of this in support of jakeyoung or whatever his name is. I’m saying this because that has to be one of the most ridiculous things I’ve heard in my life tbh, it’s just so ludicrous. I’ve seen a comment on here about a psych major talking about things called aces(not sure what those are exactly, but they provided a detailed explanation.) they went on to say that those are what alters a child’s brain chemistry. They said it could be as little as an argument or as big as abuse, but everyone is affected differently. Now I wanna pause here for a second and ask, at what point of you reading this explanation so far, are you thinking In your head that this is still a choice? Moving on, they go on to say everyone’s brain is different. And like they said it’s not an excuse but an explanation. They then continue and say that realization is the first step, and that if they realize what they’re doing and still decide to keep doing it then it would be considered a choice, only then would that be his choice. And also I feel like a lot of you are downplaying the ML’s trauma, cause if you were to be placed in that environment then you’d have a different opinion. And I hope no one has to go through that kind of childhood. Also a completely different topic that I’m sure someone else also already covered, but why are yall comparing the ML’s childhood to Kim Dan’s? It’s nothing alike at all. But seeing how long this comment is already, I won’t get into that. Btw the person I pulled my info from goes by the username @wontonssoup.(づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ

Another thing, I get that this is all a fictional story or whatever, but my point still stands. It just makes me so upset how ignorant people are being about all of this. I get yall hate the ML, there’s no good reason to like him, but this is just a whole new level of ignorance.(idk if this posted twice cause my stuff glitched)

FINALLY SOMEONE WITH ACTUAL MEDIA LITERACY AND A WORKING BRAIN. Look it's one thing to hate a character and dismiss his whole past by saying it doesn't mean what he did was right and calling people out for not having media literacy but they themselves not trying to understand the character and the situation the character is in to lead them to this point. Joo Jaekyung is not made just to be an antagonist to Kim Dan, he was made as a character for Jinx because the author makes complex characters that makes the reader want to pick the character's brain and past.

lol some of us were in that situation and make choices every day. it's not a "then wake up one day going, “Oh I’m gonna be a good person!”" yeah, it's a daily choice, it's not a sudden shift. we don't throw fists bc we choose not to. we don't hit our partners bc we choose not to. this kind of thing is bare minimum to function in society, it's not "good," it's just average and normal. these choices start even as the abuse is going on. we don't have to continue the cycle.

yes, brain chemistry changes, and that's what makes it difficult to treat through and around. but there's CBT, CPT, NET, medication, and support networks. there's similar across the world, even where there's a heavy stigma.

i think a lot of people haven't been through the shit. some people don't understand the nuance of when something is an explanation or an excuse. but we're tired of 30+ year old men being like "i had a hard childhood, now i get to hurt people." "my dad hit me, so i hit my wife," even in fiction. ofc that doesn't mean the author is going to double down on that.
