Honestly I don't think he's gonna be king. I think he'll put Planche on the throne (given that he's changed and he trusts him now) and just orchestrate everything. That's just my prediction though

I really like where they are taking Randalls character, he is not someone that you mess with and obviously seeks for the crown, meanwhile Calian wishes to be on equal ground and also "fight" for it, he mostly wants to prevent the war and if becoming king is the requirement he will go after the position.
