rant

as another reader put it. the constant use of describing this woman as “old” and basically “used up”, to the point it feels like the author is saying she is an invisible member of society who doesn’t have the same right to life as the other characters is weird and strange. it is extremely peculiar how ageism is still a trope only existing for women. as someone who is still relatively young I know that age is gonna come soon for me and it’s going to fly by too. the baddest and happiest women in my life are all 30+ and are thriving beautiful, and successful. they aren’t male centric and in many circles my cousins who are 30 plus and haven’t married are called “selfish” or “bitches” or basically failures in eyes of society. THIS is ridiculous, women can’t even be half as selfish as men before they’re punished by everyone including other women for simply existing as their own individuals not defined by some relationship. to see it being perpetuated in this manwha as some ‘plot device’ is crazy to me. the male gaze is already inescapable and yet manwhas targeted at women continue to present this meek, weak, and petulant main character who simply exists for the men around her to define her existence AND her worth.

clearly the author is trying to write a deeper and layered story, but how much more layered would it be to have a woman who for once stands her ground? or a male MC that doesnt act like a dog in heat, trying to fuck her the minute he sees her, the childish and dumb idea that he fell for a completely flat out of luck woman because she treated his wounds? so basically a motherly figure? ugh…

beyond her body and her weakness she is a hard character to define, it’s lacklustre and half assed how her age out of all variables is the biggest plot line moving this forward. making it seem like she’s some sort of predator as a 31-32 year old woman when he’s 25-26 is ridiculous… that’s his colleague bruh. i see it all the time “you’re 30” like women shouldn’t exist after that age?? the female population who perpetuate this stereotype I hope you know that you’ll be that age in what feels like the blink of an eye, and you’ll be at the receiving end of all these negative tropes you helped perpetuate.
