Maybe when they're together they become dumb
He probably made it that way because if MC really did put in sleeping pills/drugs, he's dumb if he still tried to sleep. During his sleep he'd be vulnerable to attacks if MC really was a spy.
And my thought presses I feel like they’re both stupid because couldn’t he just lay down and drink the tea and then not let him read a book and see if he falls asleep if he doesn’t, then he didn’t put drugs in it or not drink it at all, and read the book and he falls asleep and then that means he didn’t put drugs in it oh, was that too easy
