Just because people became doctors and have pledged their hippocratic oath doesn't mean their ego was erased.
I think it is because of south Korean confucian society. There hierarchy, age and experience are really important. That's p probably what the author explored to develop the story
Unfortunately, hospitals have a TON of drama. I'm not sure if Korean hospitals are the same, but my dad worked as a surgeon in the US and there is a lot of hazing less experienced doctors. When people are hazed, they tend to turn against one another.
