I saw this from a different commenter but You're right. It is because of Grayson telling him he spent his rut with a dog. I think Chase is just traumatized from thinking he actually had sex with a dog

If I remember correctly, his very first rut ended up badly. He got locked in a room with their family dogs and didn't know what to do. He got anxious and the dog really excited for seeing him. He kept calling his older siblings for help but no one came to save him. And the dog was killed.
