Not sure about the reason for the marriage as I haven't finished the whole novel yet BUT! The whip marks we see on the young ML's legs were from his omega dad (the one who birthed him). Basically his omega dad was in love with his alpha dad (the one who died in the car accident), but it wasn't mutual. The pregnancy was supposedly unplanned (who knows, maybe the omega tampered w smtg) but he thought he could use his pregnancy as a way to tie the alpha dad to him. That did not work, and the omega grew resentful towards the baby ML, especially since he looks so much like the alpha.
