this is such a loongg stretch but one-room TA has an exact part like that. Its more of the mcs story with his friend and it was more like a found-family type shit rather than than being a love interest but that part from one-room TA IS EXACTLY what you just described and I cant think of any other stories with the same plot

It’s set in highschool. MC is from an upper middle class household, he has like a dad complex, wants to please his dad but nothing he ever does seems to be enough. It makes his life sort of miserable. The ML is from a poorer home, his dad abuses him and his mom ran away leaving him behind quite young. Somehow their lives intertwine, they get to be each other’s “family” and decide when they are of age they would only depend on each other. Anyway, idk what happens but the dad of the MC starts showing interest in him again, and the MC realises how much he wanted that and sort of slowly pulls away from the ML. The ML starts ignoring him ( knowing that’s what the MC hates the most) and sort of helps other people bully him. Anyway the rift doesn’t heal, ML tries to mend it but MC says something in public about how that’s why his mum abandoned him. MC realises he messed up. Couldn’t leave his room anymore. The whole of the 3rd year passes, the ML comes to the MC’s house to show him his highschool diploma. They both realise how much they hurt each other, forgive themselves but will not be friends going forward. I think the ML’s mum finds him. The end.
