Exactly, that's another detail. Anya's design is supposedly based on Ashe, the protagonist of Endo's one-shot, and Ashe was a witch, so it could be that Anya is a psychic of ancient lineage or an alien. The one who knows the most about Desmons is Damian's older brother. I feel like he's more crucial than Melinda, given that he knows how to control his thoughts.
I wasn't surprised by the doctor's revelation because I'd always had that theory, but it only disappointed me. If Desmond can read minds and is connected to Anya's experiment, this shows that Desmond isn't necessarily an alien, but rather that he injected the power of Anya's civilization into his body. Now, if aliens exist, Anya is one of them. This explains why she speaks the language of a lost civilization and why she was separated from her biological mother. By the way, about the clues Yor was given in previous chapters: the curtains are everyone's secrets, the headache is related to Anya and her power, and the shy teacups, I think, are the romantic relationship between Yor and Loid. I feel like the secrets will be revealed during the arc where they have to save Anya, and it will be a joint operation between Loid, Yor, and Yuri.
