The person you knew since they were a child, you watched them grow up, and now they're legal and you're fucking. You've been an adult the whole time.
No matter how it happens, it's weird. Even if it isn't the definition the grooming. Would've been better if the age gap was more close in age during the most prominent years of their lives, but it wasn't. It was necessary for the foundations of this story to have the MC be the adult "Savior," towards the child who grew up with adoration and desire towards the person that established their world as they know now. I love how clear he was with his boundaries and rejecting him, I just find this story really uncomfortable no matter the route they take for the romance/smut.
