I’m not trying to make excuses for him or anything but maybe the reason he came back after 40 years is because he just found out that she died I mean what other reason could he comeback for
maybe, but it still means he left her and his son for over 40 years without worrying about them.
so.... he knew she was dead, and they had a son but didnt come in 40 years and NOW that he's a grown man and doesnt need him, he wants to appear?!
I know they're goin to give him a redemption arc but personally i would kill him.
