I agree. Honestly, the way webtoons come out—They’re writing for a check not from the soul. I know we all need money but please write something you care about. You can write from the soul/or from subject interest and get a check! It’s possible! You can write for fun and get a check!
When you write solely for a check you tick the boxes but the writing will almost always fall flat. Almost but not always—some folks are legit creative. I don’t shame them entirely, the editor is also to shame.
Editors should be a creative writing majors and help bring stories to life. However, I highly doubt most editors even took courses in the creative writing. They just read what’s popular and copy and paste onto whomever they’re editing.
Also if you want fluffy don’t go for yaoi. Go for shonen ai. You’ll find fluff there.
The writing in this story just feels so disingenuous --More so than the typical toxic BL story. It feels like there's no soul in it and they're just ticking off boxes for what would "sell", even if this includes glossing over abuse and trauma. As a yaoi/BL veteran, it's starting to get really stale for me to read.
I just want the market to shift towards fluffy stories again, is that too much to ask for?
