actually no, in this universe most dominant alphas are "heartless", so to them chase IS weird, cause he can actually feel emotions deeply while they are completely lacking basic emotional intelligence. especially grayson (he was like that since birth)
One of the biggest problems of that Chapter (aside from not showing the sister):
The artist drew Chase with violet eyes, when they should have been blue.
Violet eyes indicate a manifested dominant alpha, which isn't the case with Chase.
In the novel reading comprehension is enough to understand it, without knowing the eyecolor.
But in the manhwa adaption you don't really understand why he is different from the other family members and why his character changes later, if you see his viloet eyes and think he is already manifested as a dominant alpha.
In short:
Chase would be more like Grayson and Nathaniel if he mainifested earlier.
And Chase would be more like his father, if he didn't met Josh and continued not releasing pheromones.
Going in into detail of the characters of his siblings and parents and their problems would be spoilers from other stories. A bit of what's wrong with Grayson was later mentioned in the KMIYC novel, if the manhwa adaption doesn't leave it out...

i honestly don't think it's you 'not paying attention', and rather adaptations not fully depicting the nuances of this world-building, so it can get confusing for people who are not familiar with the novels
it's honestly so sad how both his older brothers probably had those same thoughts before but because of their parents they both just grew up like that, so now its "weird" that chase is sad over his pet dying... the parents are so fucking shit, at least their dad is - idk about the mum yet.
