From what I can tell. While he can't go directly against them. His presence is preventing them from having absolute control. And as well as protecting his children's right to act on their own.
He also probably isn't interfering because he wants his children to succeed and as well as to test Vinchen. "There will be more snakes in the weeds, show me how you handle a cobra" kind of thing.
Exactly this. He cannot favor and must maintain neutrality in this and so cannot truly interfere with the process.
I know you’re agreeing but I wanted to add my commentary on patriarchy, he’s not the only patriarch so I don’t understand why people think he has absolute power. It’s similar to presidency and the branches that keep each other in check haha, he could take on the elders but we have to remember the public doesn’t know what we know and they could easily be seen as a traitor
Yes. When it boils down. You can summarize it simply as something not so simple. Politics. You know em, we hate em. But they're necessary.
One man cannot run a nation alone. It takes collective effort. And risking enemies of powerful factions to come and be more aggressive, is dangerous. It doesn't just put you in danger, but all those beneath you too.
As a patriarch he's not just standing around. He's got paperwork and other things to manage too. He's only as lenient as his position allows.
I know it's all political and so on, but those Elders are so openly hostile and scheming against everything it's so frustrating (︶︿︶)
