Personally I wouldn't call it harem even though there are multiple love interest as our main protagonist has a cold demeanor towards any new female character introduced. Its as expected to find girls falling for him since hes both intelligent and powerful but he only had sister qingcheng in his heart.
Thats why its a personal opinion mate. I dont classify it as harem just because he's the object of affection and he has absolutely no interest in any woman besides qingcheng nor does he flirt or reciprocate their feelings. He has very cold demeanor and would kill them if they get in the way of his plans. The story takes place in the qin dynasty where marriage is equal to status and power so its not unlikely for the characters to fall for him. I know the term is "harem" has a very loose meaning and this is just the way i classify it. I see this more as a one-sided love than a harem. I dont like to throw the word harem so loosely because it puts a bad name on the story when its actually good. If people is so fixated on the word, they wont give this a chance. I can respect your opinion and that we have different terminology.
Mate it aint a personal opinion its a fact.. The mc is surrounded by several different women who love him for no reason.. Don't get me wrong, i like this manhua, but it doesn't change the fact that women r portrayed like shit and the author has no clue about how to write women.. Nor how relationships work with them..
Whether u believe this is a harem or not.. It does not change the fact that women in this manhua only exists for either 2 reasons.. Fan service, and another accessory to be added to the mcs harem so that the author and lonely readers can self insert as a main character who has women fawning over him.
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter whether or not this is a harem, its the fact that when women r involved, the writing falls apart cuz the author just relys on gooners to get excited and keep reading
*sigh, how can it not be about the harem tag if we are discussing it but generally yes, the story does fall apart when love rivals are introduced. The story is labeled as harem is a fact but my point still stands as an opinion because I believe the story shouldnt be labeled as harem. Its leaning more towards romance-rival/one-sided/false harem. When people hear the word harem, they naturally assume there's multiple women falling for the main protagonist and he's either flirtatious and just naive, simply put it, a bad attitude with a side of comedy. Considering the time period the story took place, its not surprising. It really just puts a bad name on the story for first time reader. Similar to how other genre is broken up into different branches like action = isekai, shounen, dark fantasy..etc. but in this case, everything is classified to into one word which is "harem". It doesn't take account into other variations, their might actually be different branches but how often do u see them being used, almost none. And im not disagreeing with that women are added as a type of fanservice, its obvious. My point is centered on readers misinterpretation and the story bad reputation. Those who have read the story knows but first timer reader may not know
The bad rep is the auhors own fault.. And besides, if ppl don't read this cus its a harem.. They're not missing out on much. I don't think first time readers r misinterpreting anything nor are they rly missing out if they decide to drop it..
Cuz at the end of the day, this is a harem.. The mc doesn't have to be flirtatious or naive
Im guessing u just got that trope from some shit manga like rent a gf.. That's just a generic shounen/rom com main character

But still I like Zhou Fan, not fan of harem but here because of the fight scenes
