Like agreed what happened to the merchant seems so interesting. Like I genuinely believe seeing him there it wouldn’t make the plot more interesting and actually humanized the book FL to MC to be like oh this is a real world situation because she’s been in a real world situation trying to survive, but that will humanize the FL from the book and how she’s flawed I think that would be extremely interesting for the Duke though he is not very interesting. I know that he’s meant to like progress shit but they should’ve found a different way. They should’ve found way more interesting laws and development than him. I think at one point they could’ve shown him getting over the FL as well and shit like that like that would’ve been super interesting but maybe not like this.
