Ian ain't a doll for TJ to push around, he has emotions and dreams he wants to pursue, it clearly shocks TJ when Ian says "the things I want... what about my life?" I also think some readers have this same mindset as TJ, that Ian should just unconditionally love TJ and be a yesman through it all. That ain't how it works though folks, because relationships go both ways.
