From the start Ian and TJ was stuck and it never developed (that was the whole point). A sweet poison from the past, too engrained to change, and toi engrained to easily let go.
I'm not surprised by how the encounter played out (from Ian easily falling back into TJ's arms to TJ not being able to reassure Ian).
What a great author that all characters act realistically and stay in character
