he’s not even really in love with dan. he has no idea who dan is. dan doesn’t even really know who he is. the flashbacks just show dan reserved, confused, scared. he hasn’t had a moment to breathe. a moment to show his personality. jaekyung has no idea who this man is. how can you love a shell? i guess you could love their presence. what they do for you. but you don’t love them.
i think the author wrote themselves into a corner. i don’t think the author knows how to give jaekyung a proper redemption arc. this “redemption” arc has been incredibly quick (while, somehow, also being quite slow). it doesn’t feel natural.
i was frustrated with dan this chapter. he still only blames himself. despite his ptsd, he doesn’t seem to hold any grudge toward jaekyung. it’s frustrating to read, but i had to remind myself that this isn’t an unfathomable situation. abuse victim DO blame themselves. poor dan.
last, i wondered why it’s easier for me to forgive mls in other stories. i think there are some really well written redemption arcs, some outlandish stories that make it easier to suspend belief, and, lastly, CHEMISTRY. there really isn’t any chemistry between these two. i keep reading, i have kept since the story began… honestly all i can hope for at this point is a happy ending for dan. as long as he gets that……
