ok yeah i actually looked it up this time and it's a class log! if you're the student on duty that day you have to write the activities your class did that day and you get to see what your classmates wrote about the other days :3
seems like it came about around the 40s as a way to make sure everything was running smoothly in a school, and teachers have to do one too(?)
pretty sure 日誌/nisshi is like the daily log they keep as a class. i could be entirely wrong on that tho lol
