i kinda understand why sue is so hung up on this relationship, she genuinely felt loved by him when they were together and when he left he shattered her hopes of being loved by anyone (especially because of the added context of her heart count not moving at all) so she really had no way to move on from him to any other person and since he was her last boyfriend (and a better one than the first) he was the only person she recall while thinking about romantic life
