Being in love doesn't condemn your body to being owned by someone else. I don't even mean this in a poly or an open relationship way, what do you think people who are reject by the people they love do? Some might wait until the feelings fade but others don't and theirs nothing wrong with either choice. Plus there's also platonic love. Idk but yeah hes in love with her but he hadn't seen her for decades at that and im pretty sure he though she was dead ( he didn't know she had an extended life span) him waiting around for her when he thought she was a closed chapter of his life doesn't make sense imo.
