I'm going to preface this by saying that I hadn't read this in a while because I'm not a fan of this author's writing and now that I've picked up where I left off and caught up, I can confidently say, the writing is still absolute buns. If you're going to even ATTEMPT to write an abuser and victim to "lovers" (feat. redemption arc) manhwa, at least make us feel like a crumb of justice was provided to the victim before they become lovers. And before you start regurgitating the same point that readers need to "be patient" being relayed in the comments, I've been patient for 77 DOO DOO chapters. I'm SICK OF IT. Jaekyung still hasn't faced a single real reprecussion of anything he did to Dan other than Dan temporarily quitting (which I don't even count because it felt like it didn't even last as long as some of the rape scenes did). Dan has not recieved a modicum of repentance or apology from that big browed bitch in any tangible form. The absolute lack of a break toward Dan makes me genuinely sad because this poor man just wants to be able to sleep, eat, and take care of his granny. Meanwhile Jaekyung raped Dan countless times, verbally abuse the everliving shit out of him, drive him to the point of quitting and developing an alcohol and cigarette addiction as well as sleepwalking issues, put on a facade of "the new foul mouthed yet super helpful kind hearted pro althlete" to manipulate everybody in Dan's close proximity into believing that he's a good person to keep in his life while the convenient reappearance of his childhood coach says exactly what Dan needs to hear to empathize with his abuser just enough so that he can ~magically forget and heal from every last trauma~ of said abuse when the author inevitably gets tired of the "redemption" arc and decides to move on to the romance one. Don't even get me started on the stupid ass random drown scare leads to random hug of worry and relief moment that they want us to cheer for because I was booing at my screen the whole time. When will these authors stop torturing their TWINK characters? And before you swole necked bitches hop into my replies begging me to leave and shut up, explain to me, why do I have to? Why should I? The same way you're allowed to glaze this all you want I'm allowed to express my grievances about the horrible story this art was WASTED on. This story feels like it was a wattpad obsessed middleschooler's first shot at writing bl/yaoi that wound up getting edited ever so slightly by an adult erotic novel publishing company before it was released to the public. The author relies on cheap and manipulative writing tactics to try to get away with the lack of complexities and depth of the relationship they're failing horrible to represent. Relying on coincidence after coincidence to progress the story, gets incredibly old. Just fucking write in a scene where the main characters have an actual conversation where the legitimate villain you are suddenly trying to portray as a "whipped loverboy" acts like an actual human being for once and can at least say somehing along the lines of "yeah I had shitty parents so I don't know how to treat, love, or respect anyone regardless if I they're someone I actually care about that's why I fucked up so terribly with you". No, instead the Author's going to use 17 chapters to write in a whole throwaway character that is introduced solely to loredrop on the Jaekyung because they refuse to actually acknowledge the character's actions. What is the purpose?? It's all conveniently set up for Jaekyum to avoid as much accountability as possible, and for Dan to have as much reason as possible to empathize with Jaekyum so that this dysfunctional relationship can feel less abusive and imbalanced in power than it actually is. These authors all have the same failed goal of trying to write a "complex" abusive turned "healthy" by the power of "love" relationship and I'm so exhausted of it. I end up coming back to these stories sometimes after I've dropped them, with the slimmest hope that dynamics of the relationship ended up being rectified to even just slightly resemble something legitimately healthy but instead I'm always met with the reality of authors romanticizing and glorifying trauma bonding/stockholm syndrome, or a sudden 180 character shift that is supposed to somehow be believable or satisfying even though not a crumb of actual accountability or resposibility has been taken by the abuser. If you can't write a realstic portrayal of abusive relationships or explicitly state that your content is for fetish purposes and not intended to accurately portray such themes, stop writing them, or hand me the damn pen so I can do it myself.
