No matter how long they've been with together it doesn't reflect any of his feelings either way.. they both progressed differently, the other was solely platonic and the other was romantic + he's now more mature than the last they met, if the 2nd ml was to shoot his shot, he'd have to understand hes not entirely the same 'college' friend he remembers. they both grown out of it. Time ≠ shaping feelings
If he wants to be held then let him be held.
That aside, if I were the uke, i'd pick an old college friend who i had a longer relationship with rather than my 2yrs co-worker who made a deal out of my insecurity.
