Yeah. He possibly mistaken kindness and sexual pleasures for love since his family died while he was young.
He was enamored with the idea of having someone physically attractive desire him when, it seems, no one would have the same levels of passion towards him. But he was also so engrossed in his works that he neglected Henry, assuming he'd just stay put.
