I thought I was hallucinating bc there was no way it could be true, but the final chapter confirmed it for me. Those two were brotherfuckers!!!, now it makes sense why the professor's relationship with his brother felt so uncomfortable, like a tired obsessive husband caring for his chronically sick wife. Also the final chapter couldn't be more obvious, the garden of roses, the lightning choice, the closeness of the two, with the panel before being Jos rejecting the landlord bc he already had someone he loved, WHICH IS A KEY FACTOR bc it can also be inferred that Jos didn't meet any ppl during his treatment, other than the test subjects AND his brother.
