i don't think the point was that the mc is actually ugly. mc was "ugly" as a result as the abuse she endured from her father and those around her.
you can even see the first few chapters, her face is swollen from beatings.
she was never ugly in the first place, she was just in an environment that never allowed her to be pretty
Yall I get that in the novel and technically here she’s supposed to be “ugly” but theres no way like she’s literally super cute and pretty??? And Ik they make it a point to state that she’s ugly but nothing about her is even REMOTELY ugly
