I think it’s a combination of both. Like she sees that their friendship has underlying romantic tones and doesn’t want that to jeopardize their friendship if/when she dies and the FL shows up.

Girl that is thinking too far ahead. Also you're FRIENDS. You can have multiple friends. I always hate when FLs expect to just disappear from the life of the ML when the og FL appears. Its like the concept of friendship is foreign in these
(Which i guess it is considering how often all the other male characters her age will fall for her instead of just staying friends)
