the color changes

i could be reading way too far into this, but i’d like to mention how the artists style grew and changed during the story, which is bound to happen with how long this story is, but also how the colors in the background shifted (i feel the color part was actually intentional though. the slight style change is just something that happens as an artist)

in the beginning of the story, the colors surrounding karlyle are much more dull and monotone, signifying the life he’s being forced to lead. there is no life to be found. we aren’t really seeing him live, we’re seeing him survive through this endless cycle. we’re watching him wait for his inevitable and loveless marriage. but at the end everything is vibrant. he’s found himself and the one he loves. he’s not just surviving, not even just living—he’s *thriving* it’s honestly beautiful watching the colors shift, and even during the intimate scenes as well! in the beginning they’re still somewhat dull as he’s viewing it as essentially a means to an end. but then the whole climax of the story happens, they’re now together and it’s colorful. there’s pops of color here and there, the hues and everything are just colorful. it’s amazing to see

towards the end when he’s essentially freed from the grasp of his grandfather and is able to love freely and live freely his world now seems bright and full of life. it’s somewhat subtle, but it really shows his character growth. i love it sm.
