Technically he didn't do anything in the second life and is trying to atone.
But I agree with the sentiment
He only didn't do anything in the second life because he remembered the first. Otherwise he would have acted exactly the same in the second.
Additionally, it's not like he didn't do anything bad in the second one. He still hurt the MC, just in different ways.
