Maybe because from what i remember they arent on the same page with preferences yet. In my heart of hearts they do eventually get on the same page and do the stuff they both like deep down.

My only gripe is when stories will have a character who is into hardcore rough bdsm sex and then when they finally get into a relationship theyre just suddenly chill with vanilla regular shmegular sex. Im not saying it has to be bdsm full scene every day all day but the fact that its like pretty much phased out and on the extremely mild side for the most part peeves me so bad. The idea that true love can suddenly just melt away sexual preferences (or should I say more so undesirable/"deviant" sexual preferences) is very annoying. FUCK NASTY! FUCK NASTIER! I dont know why they never ramp up shit when theyre finally a couple.
