I was crying. I do like how the author included Annette’s Banality of Evil, her ignorance to the outside world because that enabling is essentially siding with the evil. Yes, she didn’t did anything wrong, but her status and her ignorance is why she is villainized. I adored the complexity behind bother Annette and Heiner. And a realistic portrayal of a post revolution and war. And what killed me the most is the piano, the centerpiece of their love. By the end of it where Annette no longer can play the piano and Heiners inability to hear the music of the piano, but they have each other to still play the music and build those memories even with their disabilities.

This was just a great read honestly both Annette and Heiner had amazing characterization and growth. I’m sorry you won’t get me to hate Heiner . It does bring a good convo on post revolution and what we really should do with those previously in power.
