I can barely remember but I think it was something like: mc and ml are childhood friends but as they grew up ml started to act like an asshole and bully mc. Mc have always liked ml and tolerated the bullying until he had enough and moved (ig, I'm not really sure. I just remember he physically distanced himself and tried to stop liking ml). Ml noticed he actually liked mc and tried to win mc's heart again, but it was basically hopeless until the last chapter when mc accepted ml's confession.
I guess it was like this. I remember that the end gave me a bittersweet taste since it looked like mc didn't actually like ml anymore and was just settling with him, but that's just my feeling
First response is close, they were close friends when they were younger but as they got older there was some kind of misunderstanding, ML thought MC was betraying him/doing something behind his back, which caused him to hate the ML and mistreat him (I think ML’s mom who hates him had something to do with it), which in turn encouraged other people at school to bully MC. Even throughout all of this though MC liked the ML. They finally got things cleared up and essentially made up before MC moved back to their hometown (I think he just moved because his family was moving, wasn’t a conscious effort to get away from ML).
In the second half of the story they meet again the following summer and MC is doing great in his new environment. ML sees how well he’s doing without him and gets jealous, and eventually realizes he’s in love with MC. MC doesn’t reciprocate right away though, after what had happened the year before his feelings are more lukewarm and he isn’t in love with ML like before. Eventually though he comes to realize he still loves MC and they get together.
