I don’t know what you guys are talking about. He’s obviously terrified of Dan leaving again, so this feels believable based on all the recent interactions: saw Dan walk into the sea, watched him sleepwalk, saw him get drunk within literal seconds, thought he might have drowned and realized that he doesn’t want to let Dan out of his sight, tried to figure out how to keep Dan, learned that Dan is harder to win over and became aware of Dan’s trauma about his anger issues, tries to find a middle ground where he can keep him AND where Dan gets better, understands that Dan may never like him but doesn’t quite believe it, continues to deny Dan’s rejection while getting frustrated about Dan rejecting him, sleeps well in Dan’s presence but is understandably terrified when Dan is gone in the morning, has a dream about being tried when Dan leaves and then catches Dan almost falling to his death… dunno. Seems logical. This was his reaction when he thought Dan had drowned. He didn’t say sorry for being a jerk, only quietly decided he would try to be better.
