Did ya forget that Ray is the one who enabled Winter's obsession by toying with him and left him when he (Winter) was literal teenage? Both are crazy and Winter never was sane and Ray as an adult never tried to make the right call rather he used a teenager for his own amusement. So, I don’t see why people stuck with that kidnap part and forgetting who enable Winter's behaviour.
