Maria isn't stupid to just actually believe what she's told and what's put Infront of her. She didn't doubt Bianca much and she trusted bianca enough to hear out her explanation and believe it. The book doesn't follow real future events, it only shows a what-if like future that doesn't really consider the characters way of thinking.
So in reality, Maria wouldn't actually kill Bianca to have Ricardo or murder her for revenge without hearing Bianca's side of the story. Same goes for Bianca and Ricardo, she wouldn't be a villain in the first place, because she wouldn't/couldn't even kill someone and Ricardo wouldn't cheat on bianca to marry someone else, so the story in the book never happened in the first place.
The villain here should be Maria's father, he's an abusive father/husband. He is the one who murdered Maria's mother and framed Bianca.
