So he probably doesn’t know how she died?
His hope of finding her led him to the countryside, but instead, he saw his son. I feel like he probably senses in his heart that she passed away, though I’m not entirely sure about that part yet. He’s likely going to find out she died, and he will probably want to know how and where she’s buried.
I think he became ill and returned to the U.S. for treatment. During his absence, she likely moved to the countryside, possibly while pregnant. After he recovered, he returned to Korea but couldn’t find her. Alternatively, she gave birth in the countryside and stayed there. In the end, it was likely a bad miscommunication and loss of contact that prevented him from being a part of his son's life.
