In general, reformation is always better than retribution… if our justice system is always centred around retribution then those who are charged and accused will lose their human rights. it would be a horrible world if people were locked up just for the criminal to suffer, rather than to keep wider society safe. But there’s also no way someone convicted of a violent crime can turn a new leaf so quickly. So in this case it’s more of the case in which the institution has failed to actually ascertain whether he was fit to rejoin society…
