How naive

Honestly? It’s a complicated issue. On one hand, yes, rehabilitation is important for the greater good, but on the other I genuinely believe there are crimes that should never be forgiven. Some people just need to be isolated from the rest of society, and harsh punishments (if actually installed correctly) can help stop possible perpetrators out of fear for punishment. That’s why far less people commit crimes than how many actually would want to. The biggest assistance to crime is light punishments or complete lack of them. It shows perpetrators that no matter what they do, they will be fine. That lawyer is also beyond naive. I changed, so they will too? This isn’t fairyland. Saying he’s out of touch with reality is correct. Maybe it’s because he was the bully himself that he focuses only on perpetuators, but it’s so clear he does not care about the victims and has absolutely zero idea of what it’s like to them. Societal well-being is important, but victims are a part of that. They should always be a priority in this kind of situations.
