Yes. I think we have different definition of the word, monster. John retaliating doesn't mean he's a monster. He's not doing it to satiate his anger, he's doing it to protect himself. There's the difference, and that difference determine if one's a monster or not.

Honestly while it feels nice that Arlo is getting beat up it really takes away the good feelings that john brought. It shows that anyone could be the monster no matter how hard they try, even him.
