ikr i hate that shit too. like the story is faring well as a strangers to lovers trope and out of buttfuck nowhere there's 'they met before/knew each other in past life' and it just kinda brings down the novelty of a work in a really uncreative way. It feels forced, and interrupts the flow of whatever was going on already.
It does suit certain types of stories which have this element as a central idea around which the events revolve. But inserting it randomly in the middle for no reason at all looks so out of place, it doesn't feel like the original work any longer.
is it just me but i hate it when a seemingly normal story ends up with a cringe backstory, like destiny or they died in the past and reincarnated in the future, or just completely unrelated to say they belong w each other, can't they just be normal
