He's basically saying that he feels guilty for blindy rejecting the gay guy from his past without even giving him a chance or taking his feelings into consideration. Now that he gave Hyunjoo a chance and took him on a trial date, he's saying it's better to confirm your feelings for someone before outright rejecting them.
But, not everyone will take that as a proper way of rejection, i mean it is fortunately that hyungjoo take it as a positive and proper way, he is okay being rejected by iltak. But there's another type of person who will say this "if youre going to reject me, just do it right away! You dont have to take me to a nice date like this only to reject me.."
