As a psychology expert (I’m definitely in no means one) I’d say that the quote hurt people hurt people comes to mind. But if we’re being honest, we don’t really know their father’s background. This chain of abuse could be much longer than just with the pope and his children. We don’t even know if he abuses Enzo. But then again, it’s clear that Enzo is his only legitimate child. Cezar’s way of thinking is very simple: I must correct Rudbekia’s mistakes with corporal punishment. This most likely stemmed from his father by saying “I love you so I must do this so you will understand” or “I’m your family; if no one will help you in the future I must teach you now.” These are one of the many varying excuses a parent will give their children in order to discipline their children into believing the parent or guardian has complete authority.
