The MC is Agent. And not an ordinary agent. They knew from the start what they're getting into. That's included getting tortured if get caught. Even in real life, those who fight with mafia or born in mafia/gangster world. Being raped or tortured are normal for them. There's no room for them to have "trauma". Showing weakness or fear will kill them. So what realism are you looking for?
Listen, I've given up on such stories having a healthy relationship and I've been beaten into accepting the toxicity and how thse authors portray MLs like invincible war machines while the supposedly competent MC is an imbecile ...the one thing that still bothers me is how quickly these MCs go from being traumatized by extreme secual violence that leaves them for dead to sitting across from their abuser while sipping on ramen broth.
I get that the human body gets hungry even after extreme trauma, however, wouldn't it have been more realistic to show him quietly slipping to the kitchen in yhe dead of night and raid the fridge to find something to eat rather than willingly getting so close to the guy who raped him repeatedly and beat the shit out of him? It just doesn't sit well with me that in these fictional stories, we can't have any semblance of realism.
