I read somewhere I forget where that the placeholder stops the sites from auto uploading chapters that could be missing like 80% of the pages due to a lot of sites upload 20% of the chapter and wait for like Mangogo to auto upload that chapter then the other site uploads the full chapter. TLDR: To stop halfway done chapters from being uploaded
Bots will often steal shittily scanned translations from other sites or upload entirely black chapters. Putting a placeholder makes it so a bot can’t upload the chapter over the original uploader.

Pretty rando question, but why a need for placeholders instead of uploading the chapter directly when ready? I feel a little sad sometimes receiving a notification that the manga has an update only to see its a placeholder lol
