Her mother manipulated her into this like it's so clear how much control she still has over her even in adulthood. Mc is not self-congratulory abt it and she dates glasses for selfish reasons too. Shes using him to avoid rumors and make it easier for the student to give up on her. She's not a martyr at all but has flaws like real life humans
